Dilute the paint of decision with h2o. I applied about seventy five% paint to 25% h2o for this seem. I didn’t want it to be far too white so I wiped it off, with a rag, suitable immediately after making use of the paint with a brush. Let that dry for a few of hours then you can start installing.

two. Clean the Surface area.

Clean the ceiling with a soaked rag and some dish soap to get rid of any dust or dust.  This will aid the boards adhere to the ceiling when you glue them in put.

You’ll also want to get rid of the light fixtures to reinstall immediately after your plank ceiling is set up. We took this option to swap the flush-mount “boob lights” with can lights and we really like the difference! More information about that coming in the video clip.

3. Mark All the Floor Joists or Ceiling Rafters.

In my case, I was in the basement beneath the principal stage of the home, so I observed all the ground joists with a stud finder and chalked a line throughout the room to recognize the centre of every ground joist with a chalk line, so I could nail the boards to the ground joists powering the drywall in the ceiling.

I have found and investigated other solutions to installing boards on the ceiling, but I made a decision that just nailing and gluing to the ceiling was the most effective option for me.  Our completed ceiling peak devoid of the new boards was 7′-6″ and I didn’t want to make it far too a lot shorter with other solutions that I noticed.

4. Start out to start with row.

Start out on the longest wall in the back of the room, opposite of the doorway.  I ran the boards the duration of the room, perpendicular to the door.  Lower the boards as you go with a miter noticed.

Oriented the boards so the the tongue of the boards were struggling with the entry of the room.  I wished to make sure that from the entry of the room you could not see into the gaps of the tongue and groove of the boards.

I utilized the DAP DYNAGRIP Adhesive to the back of the board

Then applied the pin nailer to maintain it in put on the ceiling when the adhesive dries.  I nailed in to the edge of the tongue at and angle, to hide most of the nail heads.  Since I applied a pin nailer most of the holes the place so tiny it didn’t even mater far too a lot that they the place displaying.

Offset the finishes of the boards at minimum 4″ from the past row.  You want to prevent lining up the finishes on every row as a lot as you can.  This will give you a nicer staggered seem.

For the very last row of boards I ripped the boards to width with a desk noticed centered on the remaining width I wanted to finish it off.  I slash off the tongue finish of the board.  You also have to get rid of 50 percent of the groove up towards the ceiling in purchase to glue this piece in put.
